Plays and monologues
Writing for the theatre has always been a passion for Vala Thorsdottir. She felt a strong pull toward this creative field while studying Theatre Arts at Bretton Hall College at the University of Leeds. Debuting with her monologue Eða þannig… / Or Something You Know… in Reykjavik in 1996 she made a name for herself as a comedy actress and writer of dark comedy, performing her debut piece over 200 times in Iceland and abroad. She went on to write several notable plays, with commissions from the National Theatre of Iceland and collaborations with various talented artists and groups over the years.
Her early focus on the essence of comedy and exploration of satirical dark humor took her to fascinating places. In 1996, she was invited to join a master class with renowned artists Dario Fo and Ferruccio Soleri. Since then she has attended numerous master classes with notable figures like John Wright, among others.
Throughout her career, Vala has enjoyed collaborations with a range of incredibly talented individuals, each contributing to her artistic insights and development.
